BLACKHEAD AR: Enhancing In-Store Brand Interaction through Augmented Reality

Facing limitations in physical space, reduced staff due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the high cost and inflexibility of traditional retail displays, the jewellery brand BLACKHEAD explored how augmented reality (AR) could offer a new mode of customer engagement. As the interaction designer for this project, I focused on using AR to bridge the physical and digital realms—turning static installations into immersive, responsive experiences.

Through a mobile app, users scan physical installations in-store to unlock animated 3D product visualisations, emotional atmospheres, and shareable AR photo moments. This not only replaces traditional display props with sustainable digital content but also reinforces customer-brand interaction by allowing users to take part in the product experience. The app includes real-time feedback loops, a reward-driven sharing system (AR photo uploads), and streamlined access to product and brand content.

With this solution, BLACKHEAD successfully transformed a spatially limited retail environment into an engaging, tech-enabled space, increasing conversion and repurchase rates while maintaining user safety and visual impact.
